War is hell
Nov. 9th, 2003 06:26 pmI was talking to my mom about Jessica Lynch today. I have to applaud her for the simple fact that she has the guts to come out against the government's version of her capture and rescue. However, I tend not to believe someone who says things like 'well I'm only a soldier and not a hero and...' who also turns around and writes a book about their harrowing experience. A terrible experience to be sure - but she wasn't exactly over there to sell girl scout cookies. Plus, at least she still has all her limbs - which is more than some other soldiers can say. Considering how we've treated our POW's recently - and not-so-recently - Jessica Lynch's story is amazing because she was given treatment and not left to suffer and die. That is more than we've done for people lately.
It's odd that the attacks on soldiers in Iraq are considered terrorism. It would be like considering the gurilla warfare in Vietnam terrorism. Maybe it's not a common way to fight, but it is definitely a continuation of war, not a new thing. War doesn't end just because one country says it is. War ends with Treaties and Trials.
Oh this whole thing makes me so angry. I'm gonna crawl back into fiction now.
