In honor of Marriage Protection Week, here's a link to a Scully/Reyes story I wrote a few years ago.

Land of the Living

And an angry rant that I'm cutting for space.

Fucking pricks who came up with the idea of Marriage Protection Week...it makes me *SO* mad. SO mad. I don't wanna live in a country that has holidays like Patriot's Day and celebrations like Marriage Protection Week. News flash Mr. Bush, a couple doesn't have to be a man and a woman to have deep love and devotion. Marriage itself isn't even a totally necessary thing and it certainly doesn't need any fucking protection from the religious right or homophobic assholes. If two people, who are both consenting adults, find each other and love each other and want to devote their lives to making each other happy, the last thing in the world anyone has the right to do is to stop them.

Especially not a fearmongering, racist, homophobic, intolerant administration. If a proclimation like Marriage Protection Week isn't a sign that puppet Bush and the evil people that surround him have their own agenda that has nothing to do with the will of the people or even public opinion, well, you're just not looking hard enough.

Never has it been more true that if you're NOT outraged you're NOT paying attention.

Just like the government has no right to tell a woman what to do with her body, the government has even less right to tell us who we can and can't marry.

There are so many unhappy people in the world. There are so many unhappy marriages in the world. What's next? Outlawing divorce?

I propose Divorce Protection Week. Celebrating the right to get divorced. Or Domestic Partner Protection Week, celebrating the person who love, regardless of what box you check on your IRS forms.

Everyone should go now and read their favorite slash story. Or write a slash story. Celebrate what you love and what you are and don't let the government tell us what to do. It's a scary bad thing when your lifestyle becomes a matter of policy. We've come too far in the last half century or more.

Much love to one of the happiest couples I know, my friend Carmen and her girlfriend Shauna and one of my writing partners and her girlfriend, who are very very happy and I hope to see pictures soon because I'm sure they're also so cute together. Also, all the cute couples I see at Purchase. The guys holding hands, the women cuddling, all the devotion and love.
