Palmer is so my President
Sep. 24th, 2003 01:45 amThat made me feel better, even after being totally unable to stay awake during the fun that is psychoanalytical film theory (stab!kill!die!)
At least the other article was more structure and less Freud. Have I mentioned how much I hate the entire "castration" theory and its relation to film? Cause I do. I do a lot.
But the script cheered me up! And here's why Palmer is my President --
I remember seeing the finale and crying because we don't have Palmer as President, heck we don't even have a Prescott. But, these two speeches just made me love him. Especially in light of what is going on in the country RIGHT now.
Palmer(to cabinet): "That all of us reacted emotionally to the nuclear detonation is understandable. But leaders are required to have patience beyond human limits. The kind fo action we nearly committed should only be exercised after all other avenues have been exhausted, after the strictest standards of proof have been met."
And then to the American People:
Palmer: "First, let me assure every American citizen...despite the traumatic eents of last night, we have matters under control.
I urge you in the strongest possible terms not to indulge any of the rumors or theories you may have already heard or may soon hear. Once the facts are known, I will prsent them to you myself. Until then, know that we are all safe. And we will continue to be safe. The most patriotic thing any of us can do today is to keep living our lives. So I urge you all...go back to work, go back to school. Because the freedom we enjoy, the freedom we earn every day, is the very thing that will defeat our enemies and keep us strong. May God Bless us all..."
It's like an AU America. *Sigh* Palmer.
He's so my president.
