15minuteficlets challenge - Picture #13.
Vague finale spoilers.
Picture: Here
This is where they were married.
Right through these gates.
This wasn't LA, this was Boston. Her mom had moved out there with her step-father and after all the bad memories LA held, it was hard to want to hold a wedding in the gray vanquished city.
It was a cold day two and a half years ago. Michelle remembered going up the small steps, her mom holding the dress in one hand, holding onto the wall with the other. "If I was getting married in LA, I wouldn't need boots," Michelle had whispered as they tried very hard not to slip on the ice.
"Yes, but you wouldn't have this church either," her mom had said.
The fact that Michelle almost fell twice didn't interrupt her happiness. She would never forget entering that small chapel and seeing her Tony there at the end, waiting. Her Tony.
Now, she was alone in more ways than one.
The gate was supposed to be closed, the church itself had shut its doors months earlier, yet...there was the ajar door.
An understood meeting place. Somewhere no one would ever suspect. It wasn't difficult to get on a plane, not difficult to get the cab to stop right here and pay the money with slightly trembling fingers.
He stood right near the tree and she barely saw what he looked like as she ran and caught him in her arms.
Only when he stood by her did she feel for the first time in six months like herself.
"Tony," she whispered, touching his face, unable to really believe it.
Vague finale spoilers.
