I watched Bush's speech tonight. New icon from either CTUnet or 24uk...my mind is gone.

To avoid offending anyone - I'm cutting my thoughts.

I think I just saw an example of double-speak. I'm getting the strangest sense of deja-vu but I haven't lived through this before...it's more like something I've read.

Did he actually say that we'll avoid war but win it? I'm so confused. I'm beyond confused, I'm almost crying in frustration. I don't understand a word this man says, I don't get the logic -- is there logic?

Statements that have been debunked quite nicely are suddenly made fact again and CBS news and everyone just sort of goes along with it. I made a comment to my mom that watching CBS was like watching someone giving Bush a blow-job.

I'm reminded of the beliefs of one of my personal idols - George Seldes, who was critical of the press back in the 40/50s and warned about fascism over communism even back in the 30s, when everyone in America and Europe was rushing to the side of Mussolini and the fascists. Something about money.

He also broke the story about cigarettes being bad for you and routinely made the press accountable for its actions.

I think that journalism is a joke right now. It's just what the government tells them to report. I don't think there's any investigative reporting, I don't think they care. Oh sure, they'll go deeply into stories about getting the wrong size shirt from a dry cleaner or whatever terrorist scare there is this week...but actual news that isn't designed just to scare us? Not so much.

A few months ago, I saw someone speak in school and he told us about this trend...and it's so obvious that the only news I even listen to is News World International from Canada. And even Canada is against us in this...thing.

Does it strike anyone else as odd that the Dept. of Homeland Security needs to work closely with the governors of each state? Isn't nationwide security a federal thing? Or am I really lost?

I'm reminded of what Seldes warned about, what the guy I saw told us, and it's scary.

But, and I hasten to mention this...it's scary for reasons that have nothing to do with a threat of terrorism or heightened levels.

I have never had so little trust in my government or my President ::and I shudder to call him that::.

I *hate* that this man is in charge of my country. Heck, I'd hate it if he was in charge of the local PTA.

I just sat and listened to his speech, my eyes blurry with unshed tears because...this is it, it's the future. And I hate it.

A few years ago, I was asked by a local station in DC right outside a symposium on Clinton what I thought about the impeachment. I said I couldn't believe that he could be impeached for a blow-job while Reagan sold guns for hostages. I say the same thing now. But I wish I didn't feel this way.

Palmer for President! God I miss Clinton.
