I saw Confessions of a Dangerous Mind last night. It was interesting, never thought of the Gong Show host as a psychopathic killer for the CIA, but, believable in the context of the movie. The only thing is...I thought a few, well for lack of a better word, techniques were overused.

1) Music over action without external sounds. You know what I mean, when you're watching a movie and suddenly it's a POV shot and you know you're in the character's head so the action is happening but classical music is playing over the entire thing. I sort of think of it as a white noise musical interlude.

2) Flashbacks of earlier scenes in the film. I think that one technique that is overused in several ways in many films I've seen lately is the convention of the flashback. Not, in the normal hearing the voice way but in the quick shots of the past scenes with new information way. It's impossible to explain without seeing certain films, but it's almost like the director doesn't think the audience will remember the past without hints. It could be my affection for realism but a lot of times I don't think that the flashback psychedelic effect is really needed.

Little rant over :)

It's freezing out there. Snowed last night, just enough to make walking annoying, not enough to cancel anything, unfortunately.
