Excellent points. I agree that Philip almost certainly was cruler to Graem (and dear 24 how unfair of you to make me feel sympathy for the man responsible for at least Michelle's death since Tony survived that first attack and thousands of other deaths). Graem reacted to the abuse in a "I'm going to make my dad proud of me someday" way - and his desire for his dad to see him in the same light is really clear in the line: "Everyone thinks Jack is so tough. Well, maybe he is. But I am too." I only bring up the way he talks to Jack because while he seems to be saying complimentary things sor perhaps even wistful thoughts - it's kind of obvious to the audience that what he's really doing is causing Jack even more guilt and at a time that the character's emotions are fragile.

I agree also that we NEED to know more about the background and hopefully will discover that soon (I don't think Marilyn alone would be a deciding factor as the estrangement happened after Teri's death or sometime close to it.)

Of course the way we take the views is assuming tnat anything he told Jack was true in terms of his motives about being a patriot or if he really wanted to throw him off balance (and he did, nicely, Jack stopped asking about McCarthy or...anything else).
